Case Study: North Carolina Department of Transportation

NCDOT's Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation is the oldest program of it's kind in the nation, established in 1973.  DBPT seeks to integrate bicycle and pedestrian safety, mobility and accessibility into the overall transportation program through engineering, planning, education and training.

American Directions Research Group conducted hundreds of telephone interviews statewide in North Carolina via CATI telephone survey to measure the attitudes and perceptions of North Carolina citizens toward bicyclists and motorists sharing the roadways. ADRG took considerable steps to ensure that the client met specific methodological requirement.

ADRG has been selected by the State of North Carolina Department of Transportation to conduct numerous other projects as well, including several rounds of statewide highway safety surveys of residents.

“I have been in the survey research business for more than 22 years, and I cannot remember a project that I have worked on where I felt I was in more capable hands. The attention to detail, the sheer diligence to meet the project specs, and the true professionalism exhibited were outstanding”.
— Chief Survey Methodologist, State of North Carolina
